showing off the undone

Journal Entry: Fri Apr 18, 2008, 10:09 PM
I don't normally post 'works in progress',
but as it's been nearly 6 weeks since I documented any work at all,
I felt compelled.
It's also a symbolic piece- stalled,
waiting on tile I kept meaning to order,
representative of far too much time spent on absurd miniscule details,
hopefully to be valued as exceptional some day.

Sure is gonna be purdy all said n done.

Despite lack of proof, I have been quite busy in the studio,
attempting to focus on FINISHING the multiple projects awaiting that last 10%.
I'm anxious to have more/better works for the soon to be website.
I've been blessed with the opportunity to work with the coolest lady on this, check out her many skills at [link].
Otherwise putting together a website is a nightmare.
Photos that could ever begin to do justice,
fonts that don't quite seem right,
backgrounds and graphics that best suit
and the text- geeze all that friggin text.
The bios, artist statements, descriptions, commission contracts-
eeek, daunting task.

Meanwhile "Beginning Knot Drawing" is in full swing at Whatcom Community College. Another collection of awesome folks having fun with the 'secrets of the scribes'.

just think pretty

Journal Entry: Mon Mar 10, 2008, 8:47 PM
Soooo pretty.
I've posted a pic of the top of the mosaic box for this weekend's silent auction.
I choose to focus on the top and remind myself how pretty it is-
how near uniform the pieces are-
how lucky I got with that color combo (crystal tile colors are limited)-
how awesome the flower and butterfly turned out-
how lovely it is to run your fingers across.

I choose to focus on these things
and ignore the glaring brand from the gods of perfection and/or humility-
waiting to share the details of my grand error
until I'm able to make light of it.

It's still one of the most favoritest things I ever made
and it will make someone go "ooo pretty"
and fetch a coupla bucks for the school.

I've another jeweled mandala mosaic floral box near ready for grout.

Allied Arts Show

Well I pulled off the drop.
Mental note-
when you spend 30+ hours on a project,
you should probably get all those little 'nuisance-y' things
(like stripping, staining, and varnishing it's frame),
out of the way first.
Last night, the LAST step, as I'm trying to spray polyurethane,
it starts to drizzle,
and I realize how close I am to ruining the whole thing.

Whew- but I didn't.

And while I was very humbled seeing what these
Whatcom County artists produce, (mostly paintings)
there's a chance I'll be one of only 2 (or perhaps the only),
glass artist that isn't using a kiln, torch or furnace.

Opening reception is next Friday-
I'll be sure to post a dorky picture of me in front of my piece.
All very nervousing.

Now, on to Columbia Elementary silent auction donation-
I'm thinking a smaller jeweled box.

Prrrrrrrrr

I love my Inland Wizard.
Been too busy brutalizing my hands to update it's arrival.

The crystal tile knot box is coming along nicely-
Still have all the grey background to fill in
but the shy the 4 little corners, the knot strands are glued down.
(Plus grout, stain/paint & interior finishings.)

My attention has been diverted by a mosaic stained glass wall hanging
(re-cycled cabinet door- I LOVE YOU RE-STORE!)
It's an art nouveau wisteria-
with CRAZY glass
(one piece I've had 6 years waiting for a chance to use)
-my submission for the Allied Arts Members Exhibit.

Gotta go send sand flying.

Silence in the studio

Journal Entry: Tue Jan 29, 2008, 8:03 PM
let us take a moment,
to remember the beautiful works done,
by my wonderful Inland Impulse,
who ceased to function this past weekend.
8 years is a respectable span for a grinder,
especially given how hard I work one.

I wasn't aware of just how dependent on one tool I am.
While I always seem to be juggling 2-3 (or 5) projects at once,
they all require the grinder to proceed.

So there is silence in my studio.
I feel like the Panther, awaiting a grinder.

Can't wait to make sand with 1/9th of a horse power.
